On-Grid vs Hybrid vs Off-Grid — which system is right for you?
Detailed comparison of the 3 types of solar systems: advantages, disadvantages, costs and when to choose each.
How to choose the right solar system?
1. On-Grid Systems
**What is it?** System connected to the national electricity grid, without batteries.
- Cheapest type (~€800/kW)
- Minimal maintenance
- Maximum efficiency
- Doesn't work during power outages
- Grid-dependent
**Ideal for:** Urban homes and businesses with a stable grid.
2. Hybrid Systems
**What is it?** System with storage batteries + grid connection.
- Works during power outages
- Energy storage for night use
- Maximum flexibility
- Higher cost (~€1,100/kW + batteries)
- Batteries need replacement after 10-15 years
3. Off-Grid Systems
**What is it?** 100% autonomous system, no grid connection.
- Fully independent
- Zero electricity bill
**Ideal for:** Rural areas without grid, farms, cabins.
